Local Entrepreneurs Bring Koko FitClub to Austin TX

AUSTIN, April 2011:  Several Austin entrepreneurs are planning to open locations of Koko FitClub, a fitness center that fuses technology and personal training.
“A lot of Austinites don’t go to gyms because the gym scene is not what they want,” he said. “They are intimidated by it. [Koko] is low intimidation.” Robert Reisch said the Koko system is designed to ensure members utilize what they are paying for and that is why he wanted to bring Koko FitClub to Austin. Southwest Austin residents John and Alexa Rabb and Josh Godwin of Bee Cave are working to bring Koko FitClub to the West Austin region with the first location targeted for Lakeway. “We are hoping it will answer a lot of people’s questions about fitness,” Alexa Rabb said. “People in Austin run, but they are not cross-training.”

AUSTIN — Several Austin entrepreneurs are planning to open locations of Koko FitClub, a fitness center that fuses technology and personal training.

Robert and Jennifer Reisch said they would open a facility at 9231 W. Parmer Lane in July. The couple plans to open two other Koko FitClub locations by early 2012.

Robert Reisch said all three would be along the Parmer Lane corridor and the first location would cover the Northwest Austin, Round Rock, Leander and Cedar Park areas.

Koko members use a “Koko key” that stores their workout information and progress, and also evaluates their overall strength and fitness levels, Koko FitClub spokeswoman Lauren Dell’Olio said. The key then instructs the user on that day’s fitness regimen.

Robert Reisch said the Koko system is designed to ensure members utilize what they are paying for and that is why he wanted to bring Koko FitClub to Austin.

“A lot of Austinites don’t go to gyms because the gym scene is not what they want,” he said. “They are intimidated by it. [Koko] is low intimidation.”

Membership plans are $119 per month for unlimited use, but the cost per month is $79 with a one-year contract, he said.

Southwest Austin residents John and Alexa Rabb and Josh Godwin of Bee Cave are working to bring Koko FitClub to the West Austin region with the first location targeted for Lakeway.

Godwin said they are still in lease negotiations for the first location but are hoping to open in late September or early October.

“We are hoping it will answer a lot of people’s questions about fitness,” Alexa Rabb said. “People in Austin run, but they are not cross-training.”

Godwin said the trio is planning to open locations that cover Lakeway to Buda.

“We could have five to seven [locations] in the long run,” Godwin said. “We know it’s going to be a hit.”

Koko FitClub is based in Massachusetts. For more information on the Parmer Lane Koko FitClub, visit www.austin.kokofitclub.com.
